One story can change a life. We don’t get to know when or how or who, and that is the mystical power storytelling holds. It connects us to each other.
I never thought I would share this story with anyone, let alone publish it, and see it here in print! But, since I began to share my story with people over the past 5 years, I was met with more unconditional love than the rejection and shame I feared. Through my own journey, I have learned that no matter what our story is, we are strong enough to carry it, and we are loved in it.
Last year, Marjorie Aunos won Inspirational Speaker of the Year at Speaker Slam, and I was her runner up. As 1st place winner she received a book deal! AND, rather than keep it for herself, she selflessly shared it with 12 other co-competitors to create a powerful anthology of life-changing stories. And I was honoured to be included.
Each person in this book shares a story they never thought they would. Their candor, honesty, and relatability are inspiring. Together these 13 stories create a shared experience of humanity and love as we journey on our yellow brick road of life.
