I Missed My Exit...
This weekend I took a last-minute ski-trip to Banff in the Rocky Mountains. As we approached the entrance to the National Park, getting closer to the turn off that would take us up the mountain to where we were staying for the weekend, we got totally consumed in a great conversation. Deep in conversation and captivated by the mountains we realized we completely missed our exit…by an hour. Within 60 seconds of realizing this we saw the turn off to Lake Louise. And without missing a beat, we both laughed and said… “Lake Louise it is!”
This missed exit turned into a majestic opportunity. A moment that could have felt like we lost 2 hours in our day and arrived at our location feeling frustrated and cheated, instead became one of the most incredible evenings that was overflowing with grace, beauty and love everywhere. We walked on water (frozen lake, ha), enjoyed amazing food while we sat at a window with the most breathtaking view and took in a soul-warming fireside chat with new friends while roasting marshmallows that just happened to arrive when we joined the fire.
Although the day went nothing like we planned, in some ways we were prepared for it.
At the beginning of the trip we had shared a prayer and intention to give and receive in the fullness of our gifts and bring light to whatever came across our path that day. Our awareness and connection helped us to stay awake to all the unseen and unknown gifts of the day. This practice of prayer and intention is one I do daily and is the inspiration to today's invitation.
Today’s INVITATION: To open to the majesty and wonder of any moment you perceive as a “missed exit.”
Side note: If you are ever in Lake Louise, you have got to try their crispy roasted brussel sprouts with salted caramel! I know, sounds wild. It was. Wildly delicious!!
